What I Made Monday

I haven't had much free time lately, but Feb. 1st was a close friends birthday and I was going to see her at our monthly Knitting group this past Saturday, so I wanted to make her something special. She is an avid quilter, knitter, spinner and weaver so I decided to make her one of my special pin cushions.

She is always checking out the pin cushions in my Etsy Shop, but I knew she wanted something small to carry along with her. I decided to do one of my wool felted flower pin cushions, so I came up with a color scheme that I knew would suit her and got to work.

The following pictures are what I did over the course of  three evenings last week, and about 4 hours a night. When it was finished, I almost couldn't give it away. Tell me what you think!

In the beginning - I cut some petals out of wool felt.
Adding the beaded border to the petals using picot stitch.
Four down, two to go
It is tedious, but well worth the time.
After they are all beaded, it is time to connect the petals into groups of three.
Beautiful hand dyed Mohair roving I used to needle felt the center of the flower - or the actual pin cushion.
And felting, and felting, and felting....
Pinning the petals to the needle felted center prior to sewing them on.
First set attached.
Second set is on - we have a flower!
Then I felted a purple center for the stamen.
Antique spool with felt on each end for the base.
I just love how the center turned out!

The end!
