This Week's Favorite Contest

About 6 or 7 years ago my sister was in to a new craft: quilling. Quilling is something that I always wanted to try, but just never took the time to look into any further other than browsing at some kits. Well, if you are like me and think you might want to give it a try, then I have just the contest for you this week! JJ Quilling Design/Diane Boden Crane is generously giving away some of her beautiful papers through a contest that is being hosted by Ann Martin of All Things Paper. It is so easy, all you have to do is follow the link I have provided below, check out JJ Quilling Design then head back over to All Things Paper and leave a comment on what papers you would chose if you won! It's just that simple! Good Luck!

A sample of Diane's work!

What will you do this weekend?

My grandchildren will be spending the weekend with us - this is their first overnight visit and we are so excited, I have been thinking about what I will do with a 3 year old and her 18 month old brother and just in the nick of time, I received the perfect little project in my daily Meylah e-mail this morning! Remember when you were little and you made tissue paper flowers in grade school? Well, I do and I think this just might be the perfect project for some good old fashioned weekend fun! Enjoy!

It's Super Bowl Sunday!

I love this day! My husband and I enjoy watching football together and for many years, we have had a season-long household football pool. The annual prize being bragging rights between the two of us and the loser has to treat the winner to dinner! Let's just say I have only had to treat him once over the past 13 years!

This will be the first year that none of the kids come over for food and the big game, so I will get to have a more casual approach to the day. Of course I will still be making some goodies for the two of us to enjoy during the game, but my big plan for the day is to start a new project for myself!

I recently purchased a gorgeous 400 yard skein of Hand Dyed Fingering (Sock) Yarn, Superwash Merino from Heidi McBride of Grant Creek Yarns. It is appropriately named "Yellow Irises" and I have been searching all over Ravelry to find just the perfect pattern. Heidi is a wonderful seller on Etsy! I ordered my yarn very late on a Sunday night and it arrived here in Central VA from Missoula, Montana by Friday of the same week! And, she included a packet of her favorite herbal tea with my yarn!

After narrowing it down to the type of project I knew I would actually wear, I perused 26 pages of patterns for my yarn type and yardage and here is what I came up with:

9 Pearls Scarf Pattern by Heidi Barrett Designs

Valkyrie Scarf by Rosi Garmendia

Calsada Scarf by Katherine Matthews

Chianti by Meredith Dewald

Barb's Koigu Ruffle by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas

And the winner is.....let's just say I purchased three of the five patterns and the jury is still out; or is it!
